"On Wednesday, September 20th, MedGlobal carried out a general nutritional assessment at FUNVECUC – Casa Venezuela in La Parada, Norte de Santander, less than 5km from the border between Colombia and Venezuela. Twenty-five children from 5 to 10 years who come into Casa Venezuela for the soup-kitchen were selected for a general nutritional assessment to rule out malnourishment, low weight, obesity, etc. On Wednesday, September 20th the MedGlobal staff took the necessary vital signs, along with the anthropometric measurements (weight, height, body mass index or BMI, arm circumference, etc.). After the measurements, all children were evaluated by MedGlobal Colombia’s local doctor Deisy Rozo, and after analyzing the data, she prescribed nutritional support (vitamins) and anti-parasite treatments as needed. All the parents received not only the prescription for the medications, but also nutritional tips and orientation on how to improve the child’s overall health.
Additionally, thanks to the donation from Legacy Medical Society, from the USA, all the children received a present, a kit with a toy, coloring books, crayons, reading material and more. Parents and children alike were thrilled and surprised to receive such a generous donation. One mother even said, “Thank you so much, they’ve been asking for something to color and draw for months."
